Retna – Downtown LA

Retna crushes murals all over LA. His work is characterized by massive scale, incredibly detailed and cryptic typography, and it is almost always coupled with a figurative piece by his partner in crime MAC. If you ever drive around LA, they are impossible to miss.

Retna lets us peek his downtown LA studio (and coincidentally drives past my studio) and brings us to a recently mural he did with MAC at a church on Skid Row.

Known gallery posted this video last week of Krush from The Seventh Letter crew killin’ it! This cat is on point. Not only does Krush showcase incredible illustration skills and some on point can control.. he also put together the raw beat. The Seventh Letter represents such mad talent.

Welcome to LA…

MEAR ONE Gets Down on La Brea!

MEAR ONE goes HUGE on La Brea and 6th, this wall is insane! Mad props to an artist who kills it on so many levels.

The works of MEAR ONE are meant to bring the unseen mysteries locked with in our minds to the foreground as if to take part in a grand expose`. The question of how did we become, and why. To see through the illusion of our decrepit social condition and speak out with art as a weapon of mass liberation.

MEAR sees himself as a messenger as well a spiritual warrior using his imagination as a communication device.

Check out his website HERE!

Rebel 8 at Barracuda - Trouble and Trifle

Rebel 8 at Barracuda - Trouble and Trifle

Now he’s rocking REBEL8, his own streetwear company (with his partner Joshy D.) that reflects his deep roots in skateboard, graffiti, and tattoo cultures.

Rebel 8 party at Barracuda on Melrose in Hollywood on 24th July from 2:00pm – 9:00pm. Mike Giant will be painting live and signing at the store. Limited R8LA edition gear will be available. DJ Morse Code spinning. Plus FREE Tsing Tao and FREE tequila and margaritas!

Ekundayo Kills It

Ekundayo is an African tribal word meaning “sorrow becomes joy”, and this Hawaii born California based artist has taken his struggles and experiences and translated them to some next level freshness. After experiencing Ekundayo’s show “Never Falling” at LA’s Thinkspace Gallery, I was compelled to share the love.

David Choe – Nothing to Declare

On April 23rd David Choe is rocking his first show in Los Angeles in 6 years and he is going to be striaght killin’ it. Through some good fortune, I was invited to the private view on April 22nd and I am amped! This show is kicking off the opening of Lazarides gallery’s 8,000 square foot space in Beverly Hills for the Spring and Summer! Epic… Lazarides gallery reps it so hard in London, I’m amped they’re bringing the love to LA. This video has nothing to do with the show “Nothing to Declare” but everything to do with David Choe since it’s about the documentary about the crazy bastard, “Dirty Hands”. If you’re in the city of angels, make sure to peep this show, becuase it may be a long long time until the next one.

Capital Punishment by Dave Kinsey

Capital Punishment by Dave Kinsey

Latest print by Los Angeles based street artist, Dave Kinsey titled “Capital Punishment”. His use of colors, distressed textures, and varying brush strokes creates a composition that evokes a great deal of emotion and creates a strong sense of movement with great tension. This edition of 150 prints sold out within the first couple hours Kinsey put it on sale through his own store called Black Market Gallery, Kinsey’s last print he posted during the holidays also sold out in the first hour… Dave is straight killin’ it.
